How Color Designer works
Pick a harmony from the dropdown — Complementary, Analogous, Triadic, Split-complementary, Tetradic, Monochromatic, or Random (which also picks the algorithm for you) — then tap Roll again 🎲 to generate five color schemes built from that color-theory harmony.
Set a mood. The Mood dropdown flavors the roll on top of the harmony — Warm, Cool, Soft pastels, Deep & moody, Muted, Neon, or a theme like Ocean, Sunset, Ice, Forest, Earthy. It shifts the colors' territory and tone while the harmony still sets how they relate. Surprise me 🎲 (the default) applies no mood at all — fully random, classic behavior.
Seed your own colors. Type a hex or rgba() value into the "Add a seed color" box, or tap the swatch button next to it to open a visual color picker. You can also hover any generated swatch and tap its + to make it a seed. Seeds get woven into future rolls near a matching hue — adding one wiggles the Roll button as a nudge, but never rerolls on its own.
⚙️ Settings. The gear button opens a panel with Colors per scheme (how many colors each of the five schemes has, 2–10), Harmony, Colorblind preview, Demo speed, Roll seed, plus 🔗 Copy link / 💾 Save palette — and ↺ Restore defaults, which wipes this device's seeds, saved palettes, pins, history and settings back to a clean slate.
Pin the ones you love. Hover a swatch and tap the 🔒 (top-right) to pin it — pinned colors stay put through every re-roll while the rest change. Tap again to unpin.
Go back and forward. The ◀ ▶ buttons beside Roll step through your recent rolls, so you can return to one you liked.
Expand a scheme. Tap a scheme's swatch strip to open it and see a live demo preview, per-color RGBA/hex, plus tools for that scheme: a Contrast check (best readable text on each color, with WCAG AA/AAA grades), Export (CSS variables, SCSS, JSON, Tailwind, or plain lists — copy, download, or save a PNG), and an “explain this scheme” hue wheel.
Reproduce & share. Type a Roll seed to make rolls repeatable, and use 🔗 Copy link to copy a URL that reopens this exact palette. 💾 Save palette keeps the open scheme on a shelf you can reload later.
Check accessibility. The Colorblind preview dropdown repaints the swatches as they'd look to someone with red-, green-, or blue-blindness (a preview only — your colors are unchanged).
Copy out. Copy any single color's RGBA or hex value, or use "Copy all" to grab every color in a scheme at once.
Keyboard:R reroll · 1–5 open a scheme · ←/→ step the demo · Esc close a scheme · ? this help.
Your seeds, harmony, mood, colors-per-scheme, pins, roll seed, recent rolls, and saved palettes are stored on this device, so they're still here next time you open Color Designer.
